Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022, at 10:30 a.m.: The American Enterprise Institute (AEI) will host an event on cryptocurrency and its policy implications. The event will feature remarks fromJ. Christopher Giancarlo, chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission. Jim Harper, nonresident senior fellow at the AEI, will moderate the discussion among Giancarlo; Jerry Brito, executive director of Coin Center; Kara Calvert, head of U.S. policy at Coinbase; and Miller Whitehouse-Levine, policy director at the DeFi Education Fund.

Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, at 9:00 a.m.: The Atlantic Council will host a discussion centered on present and future strategies to address Venezuela’s political stalemate and the role of the international community in supporting democratic efforts. Kevin O’Reilly, deputy assistant secretary of state for Western Hemisphere Affairs, will offer keynote remarks. Diego Area, deputy director at the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center of the Atlantic Council, and Domingo Sadurní, assistant director of the Adrienne Arsht Latin America Center of the Atlantic Council, will moderate the panel. The speakers that will be featured are Evelyn Pinto, director for Acción Democratica; Roberto Patiño, co-founder of Caracas MiConvive and fellow at the Millennial Leadership Program of the Atlantic Council; and Fabiana Santamaria, member of the legislative council of Mérida, Venezuela.

Wednesday, Jan. 5, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.: The Senate Committee on Rules and Administration will hold an oversight hearing of the U.S. Capitol Police following the Jan. 6. attack on the Capitol. The committee will hear testimony from U.S. Capitol Police Chief Thomas Manger.

Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.: The Brookings Institution will host a panel on the one-year anniversary of the attack on the Capitol and discuss its lasting effects. Benjamin Wittes, Brookings senior fellow and Lawfare editor-in-chief, will moderate the discussion among Quinta Jurecic, Brookings fellow and Lawfare senior editor; Katie Benner, Justice Department reporter for the New York Times; Roger Parloff, Lawfare senior editor; and Seamus Hughes, deputy director of the program on extremism at the George Washington University.

Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.: The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace will host Kurt Campbell, deputy assistant to the president and coordinator for Indo-Pacific Affairs on the National Security Council, for a talk on the future of U.S.-China relations. Aaron David Miller, senior fellow at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, will host Campbell.

Thursday, Jan. 6, 2022, at 11:00 a.m.: The Middle East Institute (MEI) will host an event analyzing the future of maritime security in the Gulf and the Red Sea. Bilal Y. Saab, senior fellow and director of the Defense and Security program at MEI, will moderate discussion between Cinzia Bianco, nonresident scholar at MEI and research fellow for the European Council on Foreign Relations; Vice Adm. (ret.) Kevin Donegan, distinguished senior fellow at MEI and former ​​commander for the U.S. Navy; Saskia M. van Genugten, nonresident senior fellow at MEI, research fellow at the Netherlands Defence Academy and associate director of MacroScope Strategies; and Mirette F. Mabrouk, senior fellow and founding director of the Egypt program at MEI.

Friday, Jan. 7, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.: The Atlantic Council’s South Asia Center will host Ishrat Husain, former adviser to Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan, for a conversation on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and how it impacts Pakistan’s economy considering domestic governance challenges in the country. Uzair Younus, director of the South Asia Center at the Atlantic Council, will moderate the discussion.
