Unclogging a dishwasher
It can happen that the dishwasher is clogged and that the water drainage is bad. To make the machine operational again, it is necessary without further delay to identify the causes of this breakdown. And generally, it is food and grease residues encrusted in the filter and in the spray arms that are the cause of this breakdown. This dirt thus blocks the proper functioning of the pump which can no longer drain the water properly. Using a sponge, start by draining the standing water in the dishwasher.
However, before handling, check that the device is off by pressing the on/off button. Better, for your safety, unplug it completely. Once the machine is completely dry, you can release the filter by gently unscrewing it clockwise. Remove the protective grille then wash the filter in hot water to remove greasy deposits. Do not hesitate to use a small brush to dislodge stubborn grease. Do the same with the rack. You can also use unclog dishwasher soda for dishwashers. Let both pieces air dry.
The next step is dismantling the spray arms. The top one unscrews, while the bottom model is removed by unclipping. Here you must check if the holes present on the two rotors are also blocked. If so, run them under hot water as well and clean the holes with a toothpick. Now, to remove the layers of fat that have accumulated on the cavity that houses the filter, pour a mixture of boiling water and soda into it. Leave on for five minutes. Without resting the removed parts, run the machine to evacuate the liquid. Pour hot water again this time without soda and repeat the operation. Replace the filter and its grid, as well as the two spray arms. Voila, the dishwasher is uncorked!
Dishwasher maintenance
And even if the operation of unblocking this household appliance is easily at hand, this breakdown can be perfectly avoided with regular maintenance. But already, do not place your plates, cutlery, dishes, bowls in the device until they have been rid of food residues. Do not put jars and containers with labels in it. Under the action of water and heat, these stickers can come off and clog the filter.
To optimize the efficiency of the appliance, scrupulously follow the instructions for use and the dosage of detergents for your dishwasher. For example, if you are used to tablets, place them in the compartment reserved for this purpose and not in the dishwasher directly. And if you ever run out of detergent, never use conventional dishwashing liquid, you risk damaging the appliance.
Furthermore, cleaning the filter and its grid after each use is strongly recommended. And from time to time, you have to tackle a major cleaning of the interior of the appliance, the storage bins, the door and its seals. Cleaning products mainly intended for dishwashers are marketed in supermarkets and in DIY stores. However, you can also use white vinegar and run the appliance empty under the intensive program: this will remove bad odors as well.
