DESSICA-Les techniques de l'air dry is a French cooperative society that designs and distributes air drying and dehumidification solutions for industries. Based in the Lyonnaise region, the company offers a wide range of dehydrators, dehumidifiers and air dryers to meet various demands (agri-food, pharmceutics, energy …).

FAQ – Qu’est-ce qu’une roue déshydratante ?

In each of our dehydrators there is a dehydrating wheel that allows you to lower the moisture content of a production room or workshop.

The composition of the hygroscopic wheel

The desicante wheel uses the process of dehydration with solid adsorbents. It is composed of a structure similar to a "honeycomb" made of hygroscopic material. The dehydrating wheel is impregnated with silicagel. Â Silicagel, also known as silica gel, is a material that captures moisture.

Le fonctionnement de la roue hygroscopique

When moist air comes into contact with the wheel, the water molecules are held by the wheel, the outgoing air is dry. A motor-gearbox drives the dehydrating wheel, which achieves between 2 and 20 revolutions per hour.

To ensure continuous optimal operation, the wheel is continuously regenerated. A second flow of countercurrent air flows through the wheel on a quarter of its surface. This air flow is heated to high temperatures and evaporates the moisture trapped by the wheel. Moist air leaves the dehydrator to be evacuated outside the premises. The operation is infinite since the wheel is regenerated continuously in the dehydration process.

The performance of the dehydrators depends on the dehydrating wheel, the dimensioning, the speed of rotation, the quality of the wheel and the joints.

Maintenance of the dehydrating wheel

The wheel must always be protected by filters upstream and downstream of the air flows that pass through it to prevent deterioration.

The life of a dehydrating wheel is 8 to 12 years depending on its use. The efficiency of DESSICA plants is at least 80% after 10 years of operation.

The advantages of the dehydrating wheel

The alveolar structure of the dehydrating wheel makes it possible to obtain a large area of air exchange with a reduced space.

Our systems are equipped with third generation PPS and PPX dehydrating wheels. They have very high levels of active silicagel which ensure a very high dehumidification performance.

DESSICA wheel dehydrators reduce energy consumption compared to devices equipped with other silicagel dehydrating wheels of the same size.

These systems can be used at very low humidity (up to -65 °C dew point).
